What foggy glass means
A double-pane window is built as a sealed insulated glass unit. When the edge seal fails, moisture can enter the space between panes. Wiping the inside or outside glass will not remove that internal haze because the moisture is inside the unit.
Insulated glass replacement
The failed unit is measured, ordered to match the opening, then replaced while preserving the frame where practical.
Seal failure signs
Milky glass, droplets between panes, mineral streaks, or cloudy spots that never wipe away are common indicators.
Why repair can be better than full replacement
If the frame, sash, trim, and opening are in good condition, insulated glass replacement can restore clear glass and comfort without a full window tear-out. Full replacement may be better if the frame is rotted, warped, or structurally failing.
- Send photos of the whole window, the foggy area, and any manufacturer labels or spacer markings.
- Include rough glass dimensions if you can measure safely.
- Mention whether there are grids, tint, low-e coating, tempered glass, or unusual shapes.
